The last day of voting for the Ideas for Change in America competition is TODAY, Thursday January 15th! On Friday Change.org will present the top 10 ideas to the Obama administration at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.   And will then connect the winning ideas to leading nonprofits and launch a series of national advocacy campaigns to turn each idea into federal policy.

I have voted for the following 10 ideas:

• Appoint Secretary of Peace in Department of Peace and Non-Violence (2nd Place)
• Get FISA Right, repeal the PATRIOT Act, and restore our civil liberties (9th Place)
• Develop & Implement a National Strategy for Sustainability (10th Place)
• Healthful school lunch options (13th Place)
• Appoint a Special Prosecutor for the Crimes of the Bush Administration (14th Place)
• Stop Animal Torture (23rd Place)
• Make FREE Trade FAIR Trade For Them AND for US (32nd Place)
• Close Guantanamo prison camp (35th Place)
• green homes (50th Place)
• Ending Acute Malnutrition: An Historic Opportunity (77th Place)

Change.org started the Ideas for Change in America initiative in the hope that we could translate the energy behind the Obama election into a citizen-led movement for change around the major issues we face. With over 500,000 votes thus far, each of you has helped deliver a clear message to the Obama administration that the American people want to participate in their own government again.

Vote before 5 pm today at Change.org.

Our work with social action for our Democracy is just beginning.  Our voices and collective consciousness can make a tangible difference for the Common Good.

In addition to voting at Change.org, I have also signed a petition to be sent to President Elect Obama’s Attorney General-Designate Eric Holder, and invite you to do the same:

I have just read and signed the petition: “Special Prosecutor for Bush War
Crimes”

Please take a moment to read about this important issue, and join me in
signing the petition. It takes just 30 seconds, but can truly make a
difference. We are trying to reach 100000 signatures – please sign here:

Designating a Special Prosecutor will be the most ethical and efficient way to handle this unprecedented issue.  This is a key way to deal with the Bush Administration’s war crimes, because then the President Elect, Special Agents and others will be free to work on the future, will not need to constantly look over their shoulders and be dragged down by that huge task and complicated issue.  We need to make sure this happens so that in the future the doors are not wide open to further and worse amoral actions and legacy.

with peace and gratitude,

Chandra
