The Voice of Water

Friday, January 16, 2009 Chandra Sherin Leave a comment

I highly recommend the three short videos here regarding water and life.

Namaste,

May this New Year bring healing and all good to the waters and all life.  Especially, I call to mind the needs of all life to have access to clean water, and the needs of the oceans and the beings that depend on it for food and shelter.  The plastic pollution crisis, the world water crisis are foremost in my mind, heart and prayers at this time.  May the wisdom in these videos inspire and guide us on.

Social Action Deadlines, Act Today

The last day of voting for the Ideas for Change in America competition is TODAY, Thursday January 15th! On Friday Change.org will present the top 10 ideas to the Obama administration at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.   And will then connect the winning ideas to leading nonprofits and launch a series of national advocacy campaigns to turn each idea into federal policy.

I have voted for the following 10 ideas:

• Appoint Secretary of Peace in Department of Peace and Non-Violence (2nd Place)
• Get FISA Right, repeal the PATRIOT Act, and restore our civil liberties (9th Place)
• Develop & Implement a National Strategy for Sustainability (10th Place)
• Healthful school lunch options (13th Place)
• Appoint a Special Prosecutor for the Crimes of the Bush Administration (14th Place)
• Stop Animal Torture (23rd Place)
• Make FREE Trade FAIR Trade For Them AND for US (32nd Place)
• Close Guantanamo prison camp (35th Place)
• green homes (50th Place)
• Ending Acute Malnutrition: An Historic Opportunity (77th Place)

Change.org started the Ideas for Change in America initiative in the hope that we could translate the energy behind the Obama election into a citizen-led movement for change around the major issues we face. With over 500,000 votes thus far, each of you has helped deliver a clear message to the Obama administration that the American people want to participate in their own government again.

Vote before 5 pm today at Change.org.

Our work with social action for our Democracy is just beginning.  Our voices and collective consciousness can make a tangible difference for the Common Good.

In addition to voting at Change.org, I have also signed a petition to be sent to President Elect Obama’s Attorney General-Designate Eric Holder, and invite you to do the same:

I have just read and signed the petition: “Special Prosecutor for Bush War
Crimes”

Please take a moment to read about this important issue, and join me in
signing the petition. It takes just 30 seconds, but can truly make a
difference. We are trying to reach 100000 signatures – please sign here:

Designating a Special Prosecutor will be the most ethical and efficient way to handle this unprecedented issue.  This is a key way to deal with the Bush Administration’s war crimes, because then the President Elect, Special Agents and others will be free to work on the future, will not need to constantly look over their shoulders and be dragged down by that huge task and complicated issue.  We need to make sure this happens so that in the future the doors are not wide open to further and worse amoral actions and legacy.

with peace and gratitude,

Chandra

When Dreams Refuse to Be Forgotten

Sunday, January 4, 2009 Chandra Sherin 2 comments

The New Year is a time of retrospection, and a time to honor the symbolic new beginning for all. Often, at this time of year, I realize there is a dream I have had left over from the past year, that is hanging on, and nagging me to look at it further, to not leave it behind.

I am someone who loves, trusts and respects her dreams. Since I was about twelve, I began to listen to my vivid dreams and visions, writing them down in a dream journal. Dreams are messages in a bottle. They can connect us with great insight, healing, wisdom and inspiration. Even the difficult and scary dreams are there to help and heal. Often I feel my dreams are an extension of connections to all that I love most in life. My work does not end when I lay down to rest. And that is how I like it.

“A dream that is not understood is like a letter left unopened.” –The Talmud

As I said, some dreams do nag to be looked at, or shared further, because they have more to say than what has been understood so far. In this New Year, there is just such a dream I dreamed, just on the end cusp of 2008, that wishes to be shared here.

It is not long or complicated. It is simple and straightforward:

I am swimming in a great body of water. Whenever I dive down to swim underwater I come up quickly because I am in-undated with sound, way too many sounds. I come up because I become completely disoriented and distressed. I realize that when I had swam there underwater, so many times before, this did not happen. I could no longer swim underwater because of it.

The sensations were clear and strong. I immediately thought of the very real sound pollution in the oceans that scar whales and dolphins so badly that they beach themselves and die. Not only that, but they cannot hear their songs for miles and miles away anymore, and they are losing contact with one another. War ships specifically, are having a deadly effect, and are not taking responsibility for it.

I thought also of how in-undated our air waves are because of cell phones, satellite radio, TVs, wireless computers and so on. We do not yet realize the effects all of these billions of devices are having, on us and all life.

And lastly, I thought, perhaps our collective consciousness is so saturated with information and connectivity, that I wonder, are we are in danger of no longer hearing clearly in the collective conscious, or a deeper silence with one another? Like the whales and dolphins who are becoming alienated from distant family because of the cacophony, do we face a similar problem?

All of these issues, thoughts and contemplations are only that, except in the case of the ocean’s reality, which is urgent. I do pray and send Reiki to the ocean and the whales in particular. I want them to know that there are human beings who care, really care, on many levels.

This is not the first time I have had a dream that has led me to the welfare of the oceans and the whales. I hold reverence for both the ocean and the whales, they are much more important and sacred than many realize. Yet, more and more people are awakening to the sacredness of all life.

I offer this dream for what it is, a message from a deeper place.

from a grateful “frequency holder”,

(Thank you Eckhart Tolle.)

with peace, love, prayers and hope in this New Year,

May your dreams be realized and manifest with healing and joy,

Chandra

Here is the IFAW’s press release on sound pollution that is seriously alienating and beaching whales and dolphins.

*IFAW and Greenpeace International are great groups to support in order to protect the oceans and life found there.
